Allied RegimentsThe Queen's Own has two Allied Regiments -- The King's Royal Rifle Corps (KRRC) and The Royal East Kent Regiment (The Buffs). The KRRC was formed in 1755 and became the 60th Royal American Regiment during the War of 1812, receiving its designation as the 60th KRRC in 1830, in honour of William III. In 1966 the KRRC united with the Rifle Brigade and the Ox and Bucks Light Infantry to form the Royal Green Jackets. A further amalgamation in 2007 changed the name to The Rifles. The KRRC has been an Allied Regiment of The Queen's Own since 1956. The association between The Queen's Own and The Buffs dates to 1914 and began through the friendship that rose among all ranks during the visit of the Regiment to England to mark its 50th anniversary in 1910. Again due to successive amalgamations The Buffs has become the Princess of Wales Royal Regiment. |
